As she and her team continue their search for solutions

As she and her team continue their search for solutions to the problem of light pollution, the Academy is working with the U.K. Ministry of Environment to create a dedicated "light-pollution research team" that will "continue to work to find and eliminate the sources of light pollution."In the course of her time in the Senate, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has taken a stand on a number of major issues, from environmental protection to the future of the U.S. from President Trump and President Barack Obama to immigration. She's been a vocal opponent of Trump's agenda and has supported the government shutdown while also opposing a number of other controversial policies, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As part of his 2016 campaign, Leahy took a stand on the Senate floor against many of Obama's signature domestic policies, from the Social Security expansion, to Medicare, to regulations on the Environmental Protection Agency, to the Affordable Care Act, and to some of the most important issues in our economy.

In March, however, Leahy announced her retirement from the Senate and was running for president. She told the press in an interview on the Senate floor that during her time in the chamber, the only Republican in the Senate who opposed the trade agreement Obama signed last December, is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) "I love the President." Leahy also defended the Obama administration's executive actions to protect the environment — a stance that would ultimately prove unpopular with many members of the public.

So why don't there have been more Democratic senators with similar views and opposed to the TPP?

"The reason is because people are trying to make their own decision on what they will do if given the opportunity to do so," says Leahy. "The TPP is a disaster. It's been a disaster for a number of things. It's been a disaster for the public. It's a disaster for the environment. It's a disaster for our economy. It's a disaster for the middle class. It's a disaster."
