Cruz: It has been my experience, in our first week
Cruz: It has been my experience, in our first week in office, that when we talk about the future, we think about Mars. And we say, this is what we mean, what we are willing to do. It's not going to mean the moon, but this is the first step, to get there: this is what I want to be. It's not going to be rocket science or space technology, it's not going to be space exploration. It's not going to be science, it's not going to be space travel. It's not going to be space tourism. It's not going to be space engineering. It's not going to be space science, it's not going to be space travel. And we are going to continue to do it. We're going to continue to do it. It is what we do.
Cruz: I think we are going to do it. I will be doing research on the Moon, and I will be doing research on the Moon. And as we talk about Mars in the future, you know, we are making progress and we are making progress, but we are not going to go out and put in that kind of money in the budget. You can put your money in the budget, but you can't take in that kind of money in the budget.
When we talk about the future of the space program, we think about the future of the space program. And, as I said, we are going to do it.
Senator Cruz: And there are questions about the moon?
Cruz: Yeah. There are questions about the moon, because they, unfortunately, are so long and so far out of reach. And I think we are going to continue to explore the moon. That isn't to say that we will go back to Mars, but we will go back to the moon.
He also said that he has talked to SpaceX about the moon mission, and that it's "a good idea" to have Mars in orbit.
