In his blog post, Lund also discussed the security concerns with Australia's privacy agency, ACT.
"We've been watching some of our users, especially on WhatsApp, for a few years now. We're really surprised that they haven't heard about the security concerns," Lund wrote.
As part of its work to protect its users, ACT has been quietly trying to encrypt some of Australia's more notorious messaging apps to keep their users safe.
"Many of the messaging apps we use to communicate with our customers are vulnerable to attacks from hackers and other malicious actors that are based in our region of Australia," Adam Smith, a senior security researcher at ACT's National Cyber Security Centre, told Australian Security Network.
Smith added that the company was actively engaged in the fight against the encryption to prevent the country from making it easier for criminals to install and use WhatsApp.
Smith said the company's efforts have not been about "a few clever tricks".
