Mazda and Multimatic have long been considered very successful in the GTLM class (as far as I know), but it was the GTLM teams that took control of IMSA's top divisions in 2010, when it took over the GTLM class from the FIA and set its sights on IMSA's second tier. At IMSA's 2013 Daytona Championship in Tallinn, there were only a few teams left after IMSA was ousted after a dispute over a number of cars. We saw this happen again with the Italian GP last year, where Caterham took control of the series after the team was placed in a battle with FIA boss Bernie Ecclestone over the power unit.
The first time around, the IMSA team didn't get much more aggressive than it did in last year's season opener at Daytona. It was after a number of car breaks that Caterham began to feel its way to the top of the podium, and Caterham had to make a drastic decision. It wanted a top driver, or at least a good one, and the team felt there was no way around it. Instead of racing the DPi, they moved the DPi DP-R GT-R GT-R and the DPi DP-R DP-R DP-R GT-R.
