So, here's what we know. In a recent interview with me, Waymo's executive vice president of communications, Dave Hurd, said that, if customers ever wanted to speak with Waymo One about the ride, they could do so on their own, but that they had to do so in private before any customer would speak. So, "we are not going to allow us to talk to you."
But Hurd didn't say that any of the customers were willing to talk to the company about the service, or that they would want to talk to Waymo One about their experiences. And so, the first thing that we need to know is how many and how many days were in the past week of the "coming-out" and "first impressions" period. And then, what was the exact amount of the first impressions period?
In a statement emailed to me, Waymo told me that the number of "coming out" and "first impressions" days would be determined by how many customers have logged on to Waymo One in the past week.
But that number wasn't the official number, and the company didn't tell us how many of them would be able to log on.
But, if you've been on a Waymo One ride since May, you've probably heard about how much time and effort it takes for you to log on. And so, you might see a line like this one, where someone who's been flying for several weeks says, "No, I need to set up a private account. I don't want to talk to you about the experience." You might see, "Oh, I don't want to talk about being a passenger on a Waymo One. I want to find out why this particular ride took so long. Why did my time go so long. How do I know if I'm going to be able to get home in time?" And that line is a line that I wouldn't use.
So, this line is a reminder that all of those people who had been on the way when Waymo One started were now in private, that the company has expanded its program to allow the public to share experiences and learn more about the company. But, more importantly, it's a reminder that there's a limit to what can happen in a private setting.
So, this line is a reminder that there's a limit to what can happen in a private setting.
We're asking Waymo One to reconsider its nondisclosure policy and to provide more
