Stone was charged with three counts of obstruction of a congressional investigation, both of which were dismissed in July. He faces up to five years in jail if convicted.

Even though Stone was arrested in July, the indictment continues to list the alleged sources of his crimes. On Saturday, a New York Times investigation found that, in addition to Stone himself, several other former and current Trump campaign associates connected to the campaign and campaign-connected groups were under investigation for alleged crimes committed by Trump campaign officials. The investigation revealed that at least one of the campaign's top lieutenants was a longtime business associate of Podesta's.

Trump campaign officials have denied that some of the campaign's former and current campaign associates were part of the campaign. "We have no evidence to support President Trump's alleged conspiracy theory," a spokeswoman said in a statement to the Washington Post. "No official statements or statements made by Donald Trump, his campaign, or his family members were made by or related to Donald Trump. No evidence, however, has been made to support Trump's alleged 'Russian collusion' or 'failing' Hillary Clinton campaign."

The Justice Department also released a statement saying that the indictment would only "prevent further further evidence of the Trump campaign involvement."

The indictments come after a number of high-profile campaign figures were indicted on charges including campaign finance violations, bribery, and money laundering. (The Washington Post first reported this week on these charges.)

This past week, the Trump campaign denied that any of the current and former campaign officials were actively involved in the Trump campaign. "President Trump has made clear that he will never tolerate the interference of any candidate of any party that seeks to undermine the integrity of the election process," said campaign manager Paul Manafort. "That is why we will not tolerate any suggestion that Mr. Trump or any of his associates colluded with Russia or any other foreign power.

It is an extremely high standard to be a member of a presidential campaign when there is evidence proving collusion with a foreign power. It was never in our campaign's interest to seek and obtain records of this type from anyone else. This was, and remains, our campaign's primary goal."
