The latest recall is the most common in the dairy
The latest recall is the most common in the dairy industry—more than 1,700 cases have been reported since the U.S. Department of Agriculture began tracking a variety of milk products in January. That's more than half of all milk products sold in 2017.
"All of these cases are related to the products they were sold in the past," said Scott Bader, head of industry compliance at the U.S. Dairy Industries Association. "You don't have this kind of a problem with these products. They're still going to be sold on the shelves in the U.S."
The recall comes at a time when the meat industry is gearing up to fight a recall of beef products, which were sold as beef jerky and dairy products before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration imposed restrictions in 2014.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been investigating beef-based products since 2009, a decade before cows began eating beef.
It has also been working on a recall of other dairy products that are not processed in the facility where the company is located, such as dairy yogurt and beef jerky.
This is a particularly bad time because it allows dairy producers to charge higher prices for their products, because of a ban on a large amount of processed milk that is produced in the United States.
But the U.S. Dairy Industry Association has no problem with this. "There are plenty of dairy products that aren't processed," said David Leach, president of the association. "The dairy industry has a long history of being so bad at making milk that they're pushing people to use it in their meat products. The issue hasn't been solved."
"It's very important that the meat industry understands there is a problem with these products," he added.
The dairy industry is also working on a new way to sell milk that's less processed. The American Heart Association is testing an anti-dairy soda, which was developed in the 1970s, but never made into a dairy product, to get it to meet the new FDA requirements.
While the FDA is reviewing whether the FDA should ban dairy products that contain soy, the FDA is also working on a new way to make soy-based milk that is less processed, because the FDA is investigating whether the agency should ban dairy products that contain milk that is derived from dairy cows.
The latest milk recall, which is linked to the slaughter of about 6,000 animals this year, is one of the biggest dairy recalls in history.
