The merger is one of several such moves that the FCC has been considering. The three telecoms are currently being considered for the FCC, according to a report by The Washington Post. The Post reported earlier this year that the FCC is considering whether to approve a merger with Time Warner Cable for the same business model, though it's unclear whether the FCC will consider it.
While it's true that the three telecoms have a lot in common in terms of technology, the wireless industry is much more heterogeneous and has many customers than the companies they run.
Of the three, Time Warner Cable is by far the most well known. It's one of the few companies that owns a majority of the phone business, which means it has a large number of customers, including people who live in suburban areas. There's also a smaller number of consumers who are more likely to buy their cable TV service from a competitor.
The Post reports that Time Warner is also a big fan of T-Mobile, which has a smaller market share, but not as many customers as a competitor. That could be a problem for the FCC, since it needs to consider whether to approve the merger before it goes into effect. The White House is calling for congressional hearings on President Trump's executive order barring citizens of six majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. But the administration has not yet issued the final order.
"This is not about us but about the American people," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said on Tuesday. "The president has called for an independent commission to review the order because it is in violation of the law and we're going to seek to do it. We're also going to seek to understand what's going on with the vetting process when it comes to travelers. So we're going to work with the administration and the Department of Homeland Security to find out what it is."
Spicer added the Trump administration is open to discussing the possibility of an investigation into allegations that the order was being used as a political means to "dismantle" the country from its strict Muslim ban.
