The researchers then filled the larger cylinders of the same volume with slightly reduced volume, which was then vortexed.

The results were astonishing. The ripples in the glass were far more pronounced than the size of the ripples in the glass filled with volume. The larger volume was able to "drag the wine down a little bit," Reclari discovered.

"We had no idea," he adds. "But when we did, we found out that the ripples were much larger than we had thought. They were just like a bubble forming on the wine. It was really interesting."

Reclari's team now hopes to have their experiment replicated in large-scale laboratory settings.

While the wave dynamics are fascinating and fascinating, they'll have to wait for researchers to see how the results work out in the real world. Still, Reclari and his team believe a new way to measure the behavior of a wine will soon become available.

"There's some good science out there for us to explore and some bad science out there for other people," he says.

The incident took place in the area of U.S. Army B-52 aircraft just north of Nanaimo's downtown, according to a spokesperson for the provincial government.

"It is with great sorrow and great sadness that we announce that the U.S. Army has withdrawn six Canadian civilians from the Nanaimo Military Operations Center."

The military has not said what the reason of the withdrawal, but said the Canadian military has received a letter of apology from the Canadian Forces on behalf of the families of those killed during the assault.

The military says the victims of the assault were from Nanaimo and the U.S. military's response to the incident was thorough.
