Waymo's first customer is a woman named Lisa. Her husband

Waymo's first customer is a woman named Lisa. Her husband and her father have been living in San Francisco for years and are taking her to California to stay in touch with her. They're not officially Waymo, but they have heard that Waymo One is more user-friendly than the current taxi service.

As well, one of Lisa's favorite things to do in California is drive. She was driving with her wife and her 2-year-old son—a man who is in the process of undergoing his first test—when their SUV went down. Lisa's family lives in California and the family's van was hit by a car. Both of their kids and their two older children have since been hospitalized.

"We have been driving our car, we don't have the power to take care of it," Lisa says.

But after four hours of waiting for the right lane to open, the road is closed and it seems like a long time to wait.

The Waymo One app is available on iOS and Android phones.

A Waymo spokesperson told Ars in an email "We are very excited about Waymo One as a service, a company and a community at large. We are working closely with our partners and developers to ensure the service is delivered as fast as possible. We have seen an abundance of interest from those who would consider getting an app and will continue to work with their partners to get a ride in this city. We will continue to evaluate our future services and will release details soon."
