"We have been assured that the vendor that made this report, Microsoft, has never compromised the vendor's systems or compromised their networks," the official said. "We have been assured that the vendor that made all of these reports did not, in fact, have access to those systems. We don't know if this was a software issue at all. It's still not clear."

On Friday, Apple issued a statement responding to Ars by saying, "We have no information or evidence of any vulnerability at this time."

The company also said it has taken steps to prevent future hacks like the one that claimed the company's servers were vulnerable. The company has made no public announcement about its plans to take action against any of its customers that are found to have access to the data.
