While the solar industry has experienced a sharp decline in the past decade, the solar industry is still one of the largest industries in the United States. According to the Solar Foundation, the solar industry employs more people than any other industry in the United States.

With jobs at solar farms down in 2018, the solar industry is expected to lose more than 100 jobs in 2018. The Solar Foundation notes that the solar farm sector is expected to lose more than 8,500 jobs each year in 2018.

The Solar Foundation's report comes as the industry continues to grow. According to the Renewable Energy Outlook (REO), the industry will use a $11 billion investment in renewable energy by 2020.

Solar farms are now the second largest source of global electricity generation, responsible for nearly half of all electricity generation globally. The Renewable Energy Outlook tracks how many solar farms are generating electricity and how many are using the new technologies that make up the industry. According to the REO, the industry is expected to add at least 100,000 new solar farms in 2018.
