YouTube has been trying to put its ads in place for years for children to see, but it has been trying to figure out how to keep advertising off of the site forever, people with knowledge of the situation said.

In a statement released on Thursday, YouTube said it was suspending all of its ads, noting that it has "credible evidence that some of its users may have watched some of the most disturbing videos on YouTube."

"The company is removing all ads that appear to be based on sexual material on YouTube," the company said.

YouTube's decision follows the recent takedown of the company's self-published videos , for which the firm accused it of illegally sharing child porn online. In late January, The Times revealed that YouTube had been using ads it had created in order to sell its online services.

The company's first video, "Rip Off," was made by a man named Mike V. . V, 24, claimed to be a young man who used to watch some of the videos to help his boyfriend, who was now in his 30s, who was using his iPad to watch videos. He said the videos were "bad" and that he was willing to pay for them to remove them.In the latest round of criticism over the lack of transparency in the investigation of the Trump campaign, Donald Trump Jr. said Thursday that he has not contacted Russian officials about his campaign.
